Very well said. Absence of authentic data is creating more harm than solution of this problem. I always emphasise the importance of data to students of every discipline
Very important desideratum in higher education, as pointed out by the author of this brilliant piece. Examples of covariant variables, detected in data studies, leading to major medical and other breakthroughs are many. Dinesh Singh has alluded to one such evident covariance between Covid-19 deaths and its inverse relationship with areas having compulsory BCG immunization programme. What an incisive piece he has penned. Word-class stuff.
First, the headline is alarming and misleading. Second, almost all major countries including all western nations are struggling with data, its sources, authenticity and its analysis! UK and even Germany (Robert Koch Institute) are struggling and have changed the basis of their calculation many times! Yes Bharat also has these issues and perhaps is trying to the best under the circumstances.
Our education system has very little “connection” with real life. One of the main reasons for that most of our teachers do not make any effort to update themselves, do research or expand their horizons and relevance in interdisciplinary research. How many good papers are published in some of our top universities? How often do they involve govt and indistry in research? These are questions which need to be answered. The sad and unfortunate part is that the tradition of parrot learning which starts in schools continues even with more vigour in our Universities and and centres for higher learning

Mere Dost drama to abhi shuru hua hai. Aagey aagey dekho kya kya hota hai is desh mein. Andher nagri chopat raja.
Jai ho Bharat mata ki.
Amitabh tweeted that in sarcasm. Gif in that post made it obvious. But it seems author is too dense to understand that.
What Mr.Bachchan tweeted was a joke. It’s sad some took it as some new amazing fact.

We have left our brains in the locker room, and blindly follow the leaders even in stupidity.
India’s core competence is mathematical thinking. It is being compromised. No one is concerned about this compromise.
And we relish the ignorance.
And boast of our legacy in scientific thought – we are not worried about the loss of progress in forgoing that knowledge.
Yes we are proud of our legacy. But Legacy does not provide any solace today, if we refuse to move forward on that legacy other than remembering it.
