The government should be commended for reducing bank NPAs to a nine-year low. They’re now where they were before the UPA-era profligate lending started turning sour. Banks’ balance sheets have systematically been cleaned up, and they’re ready to lend. Now it’s for corporate India to start borrowing again to invest.

Government’s backtracking and postponement of deadlines relating to TCS on foreign transactions shows it’s not only confused about its aims but also unprepared to execute them.
