Why would a nation state allow its neighborhood to be have players deeply opposed to its interests? If they have the power and will they will exercise it. One can only wait to see how this turns out for America.
It didn’t matter if it is 80s. This is why learning from history is important. Inevitably, the big powers will keep doing such acts to maintain their hegemony. And America is in a deep paranoia since decades now. I’m pretty sure the end of its sphere of influence is also destined but the entire globe should be wary of its rabid nature.
