The home ministry’s much-hyped joint meeting between Kuki and Meitei MLAs was mere window dressing. Instead of finding a solution to the conflict, it exposed the schism between the groups after the Kuki MLAs refused to even sit with the Meiteis. It also reveals the government’s dwindling control in Manipur.
To participate in a multilateral forum without raising bilateral issues is a step forward. May this be followed, when the government considers it appropriate, by resumption of a bilateral dialogue as well.
