Collegium system not perfect but govt can’t short-circuit it. Work it out with court or test a new law

The escalating judiciary-executive quarrel over judges’ appointments is disturbing. The collegium system is not perfect but the government cannot short-circuit it by delaying approvals, hurting candidates and judicial resources. Both institutions need to display maturity and resolve this conflict. Or the government should make a new law and test it.

Manipal teacher’s bigotry is shameful. Classrooms must bridge religious divisions, not strengthen them

The brazen bigotry and Islamophobia displayed by a Manipal Institute of Technology teacher is downright shameful. The Muslim student’s pushback is brave but also rare because power in an Indian classroom is always tilted in favour of teachers. Classrooms and playgrounds are where religious divisions must be bridged not strengthened.
