New Delhi: Former California senator Kamala Harris made history Saturday when she was pronounced the US Vice President-elect. She will be America’s first woman vice president.
But that wasn’t the only reason why she is making a buzz on the internet. The world is also watching what she wears, and the white pantsuit with ‘silky, pussybow blouse‘ that she donned on the night of her victory speech in Delaware is being widely talked about.
There is, in fact, a website — WhatKamalaWore.com — that is keeping track of her attire.
Harris is also the first Indian-American, first Black, first South Asian American and the first Asian ever to be elected to the position.
WhatKamalaWore keeps track of what Harris wears and details every bit of it, including the jewellery and the watches she flaunts. The website’s bio reads — ‘Following the fashion style of US Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris’.
On Harris’ suffragette white pantsuit, the website notes, “The color made perfect sense. White has long been associated with the women’s suffrage movement. This year is the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving some women the right to vote”.
The label, Carolina Herrera, known for dressing First Ladies including Laura Bush and Michelle Obama, is an American luxury brand founded by a Venezuelan immigrant.
The pussybow — “a floppy and flouncy bow” — around the collar of her silk shirt appeared symbolic as women across Sweden wore it as a sign of protest two years ago, according to a USA Today report.
The style was first made fashionable by British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

‘Three Nights & Three Suits’ and Nike running gear
WhatKamalaWore also noted Harris’ Nike running gear that she was seen sporting in a video clip congratulating US President-elect Joe Biden on the duo’s victory defeating incumbent President Donald Trump.
On 6 November, as everyone awaited the results of the US elections, another piece was published on the website — Three Nights & Three Suits in Wilmington — on what Harris wore when she and Biden spoke at the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware.
