New Delhi: Twitter saw several heavy duty catfights today. Keep the popcorn ready!

Historian Ramachandra Guha stirred up a massive controversy after his tweet quoting British writer Philip Spratt on Gujarat and Bengal’s `culture’. But he also achieved quite a feat: Left and Right, Twitter ganged up on him.

Obviously, his comments didn’t go down well with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who became very patriotic about it all.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman clapped back at Guha with some facts. Which set off a back and forth between the minister and the historian.

Journalist Vir Singhvi intervened to try and put an end to the childish debate.

In the meantime, Bollywood was going through its own drama:

Actor Kamaal Rashid Khan or KRK dissed director Shoojit Sircar’s latest release Gulabo Sitabo starring actors Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushman Khurana, now streaming online. Sircar’s response is equally sarcastic.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, on the contrary, loved the film. Anyone spoiling for a fight with him?

Moving on from cat fights to some catty tweets:

Jamia Millia Islamia found a place in the list of top 10 universities in India, despite a difficult year full of protests, police brutality, shootings, etc.

Here, BSP President Mayawati, most unusually, took up for Jamia, alongside Banaras Hindu University which also made it to the list.

Former Vice Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University is also delighted with Jamia Millia Islamia’s ranking.

Back on the political front, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra points at selective outrage while outraging selectively.

Here’s an international update on the `Black Lives Matter’ protests in the US.

The reignited rage against racism has now been directed at historical figures with alleged racist views/actions. Former UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and explorer Christopher Columbus, who founded the US, find themselves under attack

US Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez puts things in perspective.

And to end this week on a happier note, West Indies cricketer Darren Sammy, who called out a racism by his IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad teammates, reinstates the belief that cricket is perhaps a ‘gentleman’s game’ after all.
