IIT MBA Admissions 2022: Registrations Ongoing, Check Last Date to Apply

The top IITs of India are offering MBA programmes through their departments of management studies. A total of nine IITs offer MBA programmes either regular/full-time or through distance/part-time. These include IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and IIT Jodhpur. The institutes have also focused on Executive MBA programmes, especially for working professionals seeking growth in their career. 

Further, the admission process for MBA at IITs is quite similar. The institutes consider the CAT scores for initial shortlisting and conduct a WAT-GD-PI round for final selection to the programme. Like IIMs, MBA aspirants are required to qualify for the CAT entrance exam for pursuing MBA at IITs.

In the last few years, MBAs at IITs became much more popular than MBAs at IIMs or other B-Schools. The reason behind this is IIT’s rankings, placements, and lower fee structure. IITs’ selection criteria 2022

The selection criteria 2022 for MBA at IITs is quite selective and competitive. IITs not only consider the CAT scores but other requirements such as a specific bachelor’s degree or professional degree, and preferred work experience. 

  • CAT Score: A valid CAT score between 99 to 70 cutoff percentile is desirable for admission at IITs. Both CAT sectional and CAT general cutoff is applicable at IITs for MBA. However, the cutoff percentile is different for each IIT and is somehow based on their rankings of Management studies. 
  • Academic Profile: IITs consider both engineering and non-engineering candidates with the best academic record till graduation. Candidates are required to have passed their bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Science/ Architecture/ Pharmacy/ CA/ ICWA. They must have scored at least 60 per cent marks in aggregate.
  • Work Experience: Having work experience at IITs is generally not mandatory. But, candidates with work experience of 1-2 years are preferred. 

Currently, the MBA admissions at IITs are on. The application process for the majority of the institutes will end by the month of January 2022. The table below shows the institute-wise application deadline:

MBA at IITs: Average Package and Fees 

Pursuing MBA at IITs will cost around Rs 8-10 lakhs on an average. The average fee structure at IITs for MBAs is quite lower than that of IIMs and other top B-Schools of India. 

Also, the average salary packages offered to the MBA students at IITs are beyond average. MBA graduates can easily expect a salary package in the range of Rs 10-20 LPA on average. Brands such as Cognizant, Wipro, Paytm, Infosys, Amazon, Tiger Analytics, Accenture, Ford, ICICI Bank etc visit IITs for conducting placements.
