Have you ever wondered how musicians produce music that relates to your emotions? It often happens that you listen to a song, and its lyrics match your situation. The lyrics express what you have to say to someone, or describe the problem the same way you would have.

Music has been an essential aspect of humanity since the beginning of time. Through its timeless melodies and beats, it has helped us express ourselves and connect on a level that goes far beyond mere words. In the eyes of many, music is considered the universal language of humanity, joining us in an indescribable way across borders and around the world. It can inspire joy, sadness, or anxiety; it can calm you down or pump you up; it can even help you learn something new about yourself or another person.

Musicologists say music comes from nature, and the best part of nature is human beings. It would not be wrong to say that we humans incarnate what we see around us into music, making music relatable to everyone. Struggles, breakdowns, happiness, sadness are the emotions musicians often observe around them and produce music based on their observations.

Gunvant Thakor is one such musician from Gujarat, who has seen difficulties from very close range in his life, and incarnated his struggle into music and movies. He is counted among the well-known music and film producers of Gujarat. In his career, Gunvant had produced numerous music albums that went viral even when people were not accustomed to social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook.

Born in an abstruse village called Lhor that falls in Mehsana, Gujarat, Gunvant got introduced to the struggles and hardships of life right from childhood. His family shifted to Thaltej, Ahmedabad, in search of a better job opportunity. Later, Gunvant also started doing random jobs to support his family financially. However, his jobs were not exciting him to the extent he wanted. He was fascinated with the idea of being a music producer someday. So, he decided to join the Gujarati film industry, situated 12 kilometres away from his home in Thaltej.

A new job in the film industry was even more challenging for him, but it taught him many things that eventually moulded him into a successful music and movie producer. Over time, Gunvant mustered the courage to start his venture in the film industry. So, he founded Jigar Studio – a music label under which Gunvant produces and distributes his music. During the 1990s, there were very few channels available to promote music. Hence, Gunvant visited every CD store to introduce his work to them and encourage them to sell his music albums.

His hard work and patience during the struggling phase of Jigar Studio kept him motivated to produce quality music. Over time, his music gained recognition, fetching him appreciation from the audience. His music also attracted industry leaders, and his time changed after that.

He ascended the stardom with the album ‘Meldi Mano Madhado’, which he co-produced with Vikram Thakor in 2004. A song from the album, ‘Sona Ni Into Padavajo’, became an immediate blockbuster, and he went on to become a household name.

Gunvant’s professional journey took off as a result of his collaboration with Vikram Thakor. In 2006, Gunvant and Vikram Thakor teamed up to make a Gujarati film ‘Ek Var Piyu Ne Malva Aavje’, with the lead role of Vikram Thakor. Their film was the year’s biggest hit, surpassing every box office record in the Gujarati film industry.

A 2009 movie, ‘Tuto Sajan Mara Kadje Korani’, which Gunvant made in cooperation with Jagdish Thakor, received rave reviews and applause. Around the same period, the duo also released a few music albums. Later on, in 2013, they produced the Gujarati film ‘Preet Jhuke Nahi Saath Chhute Nahi’.

Gunvant’s most well-known music albums and films include ‘Tu Mari Nai To Koini Nai’, which was sung by famous singer Jignesh Kaviraj and ‘Prem Ni Majburi’, ‘Nandlala’, and ‘Jiv Hatheli Par Muki Didho Tara Re Bharose’, sung by Aakash Thakor.

Gunvant has had his presence in the Gujarati film industry for more than 35 years. Throughout his expansive career, he has worked and collaborated with many famous names of the film industries of India. Some of the biggest names of the film industry Gunvant has worked with are Vikram Thakor, Naresh Kanodiya, Rakesh Barot, Hiten Kumar, Aakash Thakor, Rajdeep Barot, Firoz Irani, Jignesh Kaviraj, and Hitu Kanodiya.

In his years in the film industry, Gunvant has produced more than 5,000 songs and three movies. Additionally, he has made innumerable short films, telefilms, and documentaries.
