Karnataka chief minister lists corrupt BJP leaders in his mathematical tweet. BJP’s Yeddyurappa adds his own bit of chemistry in reply.
Social media has turned into an important political tool for leaders, especially in election season. Starting from Modi’s win in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls to the present assembly elections in Karnataka, political parties have engaged in wordy wars on social media, primarily Twitter or Facebook.
On Tuesday, one such tweet, by Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah made thousands sit up and notice. In the tweet, the Congress leader gives a mathematical interpretation of the number of BJP leaders in the state with criminal record.
He tweeted –
Dear People of Karnataka,
Let’s learn Maths with BJP:
Jailbird Yeddy = 1
Infamous Reddy Bros = 2+1
Sriramulu = 3+1
Katta Subramanya = 4+1
Krishnaiah Setty = 5+1
Hartal Halappa = 6+1
Renukacharya = 7+1
Should we hand over Karnataka to this gang?

Deconstructing the tweet
The first to be named in Siddaramaiah’s list is B.S. Yeddyurappa (Jailbird Yeddy -1). The BJP chief-ministerial candidate was acquitted in a Rs 40-crore mining bribery case in 2016. Involved in a mining scam case in 2012, the two Reddy brothers, Somashekara Reddy and Karunakara Reddy, are second in the list (2+1). Third name on the list is B. Sriramalu, a close confidante of the Reddy brothers and an accused in a 2016 murder case makes it four people (3+1).
Fifth on the list is Katta Subramanya Naidu, who was charged in the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) case. Naidu adds to the list (4+1). Next is Krishnaiah Shetty. The former BJP minister was accused in a land scam in 2011 and is mentioned in the sixth position (5+1).
Next on the list is Hartal Halappa, who was acquitted in a rape case in 2009 (6+1). BJP leader M.P. Renukacharya concludes the list (7+1). Renukacharya is a former excise minister who was expelled from his position because of his outburst against former chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda in 2013.
Siddaramaiah depicts these opposition leaders as a gang of goons and urges voters to think before voting for BJP.
The unending war on social media was incomplete without a reply from the opponents. Answering to the tweet, BJP leader Yeddyurappa put his own bit of chemistry in Siddaramaiah’s mathematics.
Dear people of Karnataka,
Now that @siddaramaiah has enlightened us with some mathema-tricks, let’s urge him to decode a bit of Chemistry.
How can a socialist receive extravagant gifts from a crony capitalist? What was the agent that brought about such a rare chemical reaction? https://t.co/jah6P8UqI3
