Rahul Gandhi is a fifth-generation politician from the Nehru-Gandhi family, a senior Congress leader and party MP from Wayanad in Kerala.
His entry into politics happened in 2004 when he decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the family seat of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. He subsequently won three times from there but lost to the BJP’s Smriti Irani in 2019. However, Rahul Gandhi, remained an MP because he won the election from Wayanad. He became the Congress party chief in 2017 but quit from that post after the Congress’ disastrous show in the 2019 General Elections. Cutting across months of 2022, 2023 and 2024, Rahul Gandhi has taken out two yatras — the 3,750-km Bharat Jodo Yatra (from Kanniyakumari to Srinagar) and the 6,700-km Bharat Jodi Nyay Yatra (from Thoubal in Manipur to Mumbai).
One of the finest commentators on Gujarat politics. Remarkable observations sir.
I hope you keep writing many more articles in The Print.
Kudos to The Print for finding some brilliant columnist from different states of India.
Congress has not learnt why PV Narasimha Rao he did not played to hands of so called hindu parties for that matter not learnt why they are failing force to reckon.
They have taken people for granted “ass u m ing” no alternative to them in terms of national reach, not in touch with ground realities, prodded too much minority by just keeping them scared. Still have not realized that the power has shifted from center to state, only caste/religious politics does not work any more, need results before election ( RG does not have experience of panchayath sarpanch – they can claim he is MP for many terms. MPs are not in administration taking decisions ), no mass leaders ( sharath pawar, mamatha benerjee, sagma etc). Unless these are fixed they do not have any chance. On the other hand BJP under Modi learns faster, adapts , have successors ( though not stated Shivraj, Raman singh, Vasundhara raje are equally qualified by their own right). Its very important to have good opposition party.
Leave band aid approach go for short, medium and long term plan just like junking planning commission’s five year plan to concerted approach. Have to wake up before a solid other alternative emerges ( aap, nitish kumar etc). Writing on the wall is clear power, opposition, coalition, weak opposition, irrelevant party and end of GOP.
We will not vote by family name, family etc, “we need what we need no excuses”, we don’t just care anymore. History is FULL of such examples.
