Yes we must export all defence items produced by us to friendly countries on sustained basis as well as enhance technology so that we remain most modern producers. Sky is the limit.
I am proud that India is making headway in this domain as well. It was formerly left to foreign agents and companies with under-the-table deals. Now we are making that which suits to our geographic immediate needs and can refurbish them to meet future needs. This can easily make a few trillion dollar sale market. I believe this animal spirits needs to be impinged with other goods for which we depend on China and a few other countries. Good luck to India.
Work culture in all PSUs is very weak. Problems in all ordinance factories are the same. Why we couldn’t manufacture world-class Rifle to Tank and fighter planes after so many years. We had Vijayant and T55 Tanks in 1971 war after that we decided to manufacture world-class Tank and wasted 30 Years with no satisfaction. Vijayant could be improved with a powerful engine, Kanchan armor, 120mm. gun by applying indigenous technology and containing weight around 50 Tons. Actually we want foreign arms which can be assembled in ordnance factories under license.
Here lies a bigger opportunity, if we barter/negotiate a trade with usa or any country, suppose we buy ex equipment worth 5k crore they must and should place order on us for at least ex percentage of defence material, equipment, helicopters, brahmos etc. It is upto how good we negotiate else they manufacture in India. Maybe this is being done. Even technology transfer.
