Earlier I thought it was China who was in trouble due to cold as reports gave picture that Chinese troops were crying & being shifted to hospitals etc.
The challenges are plenty. One reading of the HIMALAYAN BLUNDER gives more details than all retired officers together can.
We hope lessons have been learnt since 1962 to face the situation in better way, if not, was the period between 1962- 2014 was wasted or was 2014 -2020 wasted, will be decided by people.
At least now we will not be sending the troops with Canvas boots, Dari- Blanket and frozen Puri-Bhji to 18500 feet on a 5-10 day trek with no hope of emergency evacuation and replenishment of the limited pouch ammunition
The idea and need for CDS of 1962 has now been fulfilled the command and controls concepts which were given a go by, trust have been addressed.
At the end of the day we do have an issue with resource crunch, piled up over 52 years which have just begun to be address over past 6 years.
