By falsely claiming Assam residency for a Rajya Sabha berth and becoming a PM without being elected to the people’s house, he set a bad precedent. Despite being humiliated on several occasions he refused to resign and uphold the dignity of the PM’s office. He is wrongly credited with India’s economic reforms of 1991 which were the handiwork of India’s greatest PM P.V. Narsimha Rao, a mentor who MMS failed to stand by in bad times. MMS only followed orders whether they were of PVNR or Sonia Gandhi. In that he was always the quintessential bureaucrat, never the Prime Minister. No wonder none of his cabinet members listened to him wantonly indulging in corruption under his watch. Any other self respecting person would have resigned but not MMS.
For all his strenghts as a technocrat, you forget to mention that Obama also knew that he was made PM by Sonia to keep the seat warm for a RaGa who had neither the aptitude or the passion.
The biggest humiliation for a PM is when he is not even a member of the Lok Sabha. That’s the humiliation Dr Singh had to endure which makes it a humiliation for all Indians.
