Patil, who currently holds the labour and excise portfolios, was given the charge of Maharashtra home department following the resignation of Anil Deshmukh.
Deshmukh’s resignation came Monday after the Bombay High Court ordered the CBI to probe allegations against him of running an extortion racket in Mumbai.

The court further said there is no affidavit submitted by police officers who were allegedly called by the state home minister to his home, supporting the allegations levelled by Param Bir Singh.
The one-member panel, to be headed by judge Kailash Uttamchand Chandiwal (retd), is given the time of six months to submit its report to the state government, an official order said.
Apart from corruption allegations, Singh also accused Deshmukh of interfering in police investigations & putting pressure to implicate BJP leaders in Mohan Delkar suicide case.
