(Reuters) – Genoa’s Serie A home match against Juventus on Saturday will be played behind closed doors following crowd violence during their Italian Cup match against Serie B side Sampdoria, Genoa said in a statement on Friday.

Violent clashes between Genoa and Sampdoria fans on Wednesday left over 50 people injured, including many police officers, Italian media reported.

Most incidents occurred after the match, which Sampdoria won on penalties. Both clubs have been fined 10,000 euros ($11,151.00) Lega Serie A said in a statement.

“What happened during the Genoa-Sampdoria derby has nothing to do with football and the values that this sport can convey,” Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said in a statement.

“Unacceptable acts committed by those who go to the stadium with the sole purpose of fuelling disorder. My solidarity and my closeness to all the police officers who were injured.”

Sampdoria might face a similar punishment for their next home game, against Juve Stabia on Oct. 4 in Serie B.
