(Reuters) – Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 63 runs in the opening test to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series in Galle on Monday.

Chasing 275 for victory New Zealand were all out for 211, Rachin Ravindra the top scorer for the visitors with a gritty 92.

Spinners Prabath Jayasuriya (5-68) and Ramesh Mendis (3-83) shone with the ball for the hosts.

The second test, also in Galle, begins on Thursday.
