In the first visual evidence of the border scuffle between Indian and Chinese troops at the Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh this week, a video that shows both sides hurling stones at each other, kicking and throwing punches has emerged.
The video, published first by ThePrint, lasts just over a minute and is apparently recorded using a smartphone.
It shows the ugly brawl between troops of the Asian giants in disputed territory on 15 August, India’s Independence Day. Chinese and Indian soldiers can be seen first engaging in a close quarter fist-fight that quickly escalated to hurling stones. At least one soldier is seen lying on the ground after the short clash.
While border scuffles between Indian and Chinese troops are not unknown, incidents of stone-throwing and beating each other with sticks is highly unusual. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said Friday that the scuffle is not in the interest of either side.
India and China have been locked in a tense border stand-off in the India-China-Bhutan tri-junction area of Doklam since late-June.
