Shah also asked the Delhi unit to send him a compilation of all
the letters he has written to them till date. But members worry they may
have been lost.
The BJP Amit Shah tore into the party’s Delhi leadership on Friday for not
putting its house in order and ordered members to work toward securing at
least 51 % of vote share in the next elections in the national capital.
During a review of the state unit functioning, Shah heard the state unit’s
complaints and sought a report card.
For many years, the party has been oscillating between a vote share of 34%
to 36% in every poll in Delhi. This percentage has been widely accepted by
local members as the steady vote share of the party in any election,
irrespective whether the party gets three assembly seats or 32.
But now, Shah wants to shake this complacency because the party has lost
five consecutive elections, earlier to the Congress and more recently to the
Aam Admi Party.
As complaints poured in from all quarters about appointments and financial
irregularities, Shah asked the Delhi unit to send him by Saturday a
compilation of all his letters and communications to them till date. These
letters were meant to be forwarded to the district and mandal-level workers.
But sources in the party told ThePrint that Delhi unit is now perturbed
about the national chief’s demand because they may have lost the letters and
messages.
“They now have to comb through heaps of documents and every letter Shah has
issued them till date. This has ended all the fun for the organisers of the
two-day pravas event,” said a senior leader, referring to Shah’s ‘stay’ with
the state unit Friday and Saturday.
Another issue that is raised by the MPs in the interaction pertains to the
unification of the corporations in Delhi.
“It is due to trifurcation that east Delhi is financially unstable. We are
financially worst hit corporation and we need to unify with others to gain
our ground,” said East Delhi MP Maheish Girri. “Otherwise there would be
strikes due to non-payment of wages and people will suffer.”
Girri said he will also write to the PM on the issue.
