Supposed to take place every three months, the key meeting was postponed due to presidential, VP polls.

The much-delayed national executive meeting of the BJP is likely to be held in Delhi on 25 September. The party may also convene a meeting of its national council around the same time.

The last national executive, the highest decision making body of the BJP, was held in Bhubaneswar in April. While the meet is supposed to take place every three months, sources in the party said that it had been postponed due to presidential and vice-presidential polls as well as the Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat.

The date holds significance for the party as 25 September would see the culmination of the year-long birth centenary celebrations of Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay.

While, the decision to hold national council, along with the national executive, is yet to be approved by the party president, sources claim that there is a strong possibility of the council meeting being held on 25 September. MLAs from every state usually attend the national council meeting.

“While MLAs are invited to council meetings, there are times when it is not mandatory for them to attend those events. However, we have come to know that this council meeting will see the presence every BJP MLA of the country. What the PM says during the three-day programme will be the curtain raiser for the 2019 election campaign,” said a BJP source.

While some leaders are in favour of holding these meeting in the last week of September, sources said the top brass is keen on 23-25 September. “The date will be fixed once the party president gives his nod,” added the source.

While the top leadership of the party, including CMs of the BJP-ruled states, attend the national executive, the council meeting sees participation of state representatives. The BJP has approximately1,400 national council and 300 national executive members.
