Work divided among three deputy NSAs

The government has divided work among three deputy national security advisers. While former RAW chief Rajinder Khanna is in charge of external intelligence and security, diplomat and another deputy NSA Pankaj Saran is looking after strategic affairs. Former chairman of Joint Intelligence Committee R.N. Ravi, who was appointed the third deputy NSA recently, will be handling internal security.

Rahul Gandhi plays a good Hindu

Necessitated by seemingly political compulsions to take on a rising BJP, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been at great pains to portray himself as a Hindu, visiting temples during election campaigns, going on a Kailash Mansorvar Yatra and his party even going to the extent of describing him as a “janeudhari Brahmin”. It seems Gandhi is in no mood to go slow on this front. On Thursday, as news of the death of veteran politician and former Congress leader N.D. Tiwari poured in, Rahul tweeted his condolences. However, what stood out was how he ended his tweet with ‘Om Shanti’, something that Prime Minister Narendra Modi often does.

CBSE schools ready for ethics week

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) wants to inculcate values and ethics among students to dissuade them from using unfair means in examinations. According to a senior CBSE official, as part of vigilance awareness week, to be observed later this month, the board will ask schools affiliated to it across the country to teach students about ethics and examinations. There are more than 20,000 schools affiliated to the CBSE.

There are a number of activities that will be undertaken by the schools as part of vigilance awareness week. Schools will be asked to conduct lecture-cum-interactive sessions, especially for students who will appear for Class X and XII board exams, on ethics and integrity.

Ahead of 2019, infighting hits Odisha Congress

As elections in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh draw closer, the Congress high command’s greatest concern is the barely-hidden factionalism in these state units. However, there is yet another poll-bound state where schisms in the party are giving the Congress brass a few sleepless nights.

Odisha, which goes to polls in 2019 along with the Lok Sabha elections, is witnessing a cold war between Pradesh Congress Committee chief Niranjan Patnaik and manifesto committee chairman Srikant Jena. It seems the rivalry between the two is now for all to see in the state unit, with each faction subtly trying to sabotage and out-do the other. News of this has even reached the high command, which is now mulling over how to resolve the brewing crisis.

CM Fadnavis wants Maharashtra secretariat to be neat & clean

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been aggressively driving Swachh Bharat Mission, PM Modi’s pet project, in his state. However, the CM recently realised that while he was forcing a broom on the entire state, his government’s own headquarters, Mantralaya, was not quite the shining example to lead the way. He has now directed all departments to observe a ‘cleanliness fortnight’, and get rid of all waste papers, old files, scrap material and so on.
