Yadav claims the raids were to intimidate him after his agitation for fair crop prices and against liquor shops in Rewari.

New Delhi: Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav claimed in a series of tweets that his relatives’ clinic in Rewari, Haryana, was raided by Income Tax officials Wednesday morning.

Yadav claimed that the raids were conducted to intimidate and silence him as he had launched an agitation for fair crop price for farmers and against liquor shops in Rewari. He completed the nine-day Swaraj Yatra Monday.

Haryana has a BJP government headed by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Yadav alleged that about 100 officials of Income Tax and police department raided the clinic, operated by his sister, brother-in-law and nephew, at 11 am in the morning and sealed the building, including ICU for new born infants. The officials allegedly locked the doctors in their cabins and threatened them.

Targeting the government, Yadav asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raid his house and set up an enquiry against him, not his family members.

His allegations resulted in a flood of tweets in his support, criticising the prime minister and his government for vendetta politics.

Deepender Hooda, national spokesperson of Congress and Member of Parliament, condemned the raid on Yadav family and said he had always heard good things about Yadav’s family in Rewari. He also termed the Modi government ‘vindictive’.

Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Mayank Gandhi condemned the raids and called it ‘vendetta politics’. Gandhi and Yadav were colleagues in AAP, but both eventually left the party. Yadav founded the Swaraj Abhiyan after being ousted from AAP in 2015.
