Mumbai: The Shiv Sena on Saturday praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying that he has taken a positive stand over the coronavirus pandemic and shown how a responsible opposition party should behave during a crisis.

The party, which shares power with Congress and NCP in Maharashtra, said that Gandhi took a stand in public interest and displayed political maturity when he said that he might have differences with Modi, but this is not the time to quarrel as the country needs to give a united fight against the pandemic.

In an editorial in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, the Sena said that Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should hold one-on-one talks to discuss the pandemic for the benefit of the country.

“There can be certain opinions about Rahul Gandhi.

Well, there are opinions about PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah as well. Half of the BJP’s success is due to tarnishing the image of Rahul Gandhi. This continues even today.

“But Gandhi has to be praised for the stand he has taken in the present crisis. He has created a model code of conduct on how an opposition party should behave when the country is faced with a crisis,” the Uddhav Thackeray-led party said.

“Gandhi recognised the coronavirus threat well in advance and continuously warned the government to take necessary steps. When everybody was busy pulling down the (Congress-led) Madhya Pradesh government, Gandhi was trying to wake the government up to tackle the coronavirus crisis,” the Sena said.

Gandhi repeatedly urged the government to stop the export of medical equipment required in the treatment of coronavirus patients, it added.

“On Thursday, Gandhi again said that this is not the time to quarrel. He said, he might have difference with PM Modi, but this is not the time for it. He said that we need to unite in the fight against coronavirus pandemic and if we quarrel, we will not succeed in it,” the party said.

“He also said that lockdown was not a remedy, but just a ‘pause button’ in the coronavirus fight. He said once the lockdown is lifted, the virus will once again spread, which is why tests should be conducted on maximum number of people. His statement that lockdown doesn’t kill the virus, but allows the government to create medical facilities is completely true,” it added.

“We need to have a concrete strategy to come out of the lockdown,” the Sena said.

It added that the thoughts expressed by Gandhi are like a “chintan shibir” (brainstorming session) for the government and opposition parties, and would benefit the country.

“After hearing Gandhi’s views, we feel that he and PM Modi should hold direct talks over the coronavirus crisis at least once,” it added.

  1. Come MAY end if the NCP decides to stake a claim in Maharashtra, the Congress support will be the decider unless of course there is a U-turn and home coming. Don’t be surprised if there are praises of BJP also coming loud and clear.

  2. Uddhav Thackeray is aware that any criticism of the dumb Prince means he will lose his CM chair immediately. It also shows how low the Sena is falling everyday, facing insults from the NCP and congress, and yet doing nothing more than twiddling it’s thumb in desperation. Balasaheb Thackeray called Sharad Pawar the most corrupt politician and woved to defeat him while Uddhav chose to become in the puppet in Pawar’s hand. Now both congress and NCP are making Uddhav dance to their times and Uddhav is just watching as a mute spectator. He has a abusive side kick who speaks non sense everyday, playa to the gallery and often puts foot in the mouth. Uddhav’s glaring failures and inability to reign in the congress and NCP is evident on what’s happened in last few days. First the financial criminals called Wadhavans were allowed by his government a enjoyable trip from Nerul to Mahabaleshwar, a distance of about 180 kms during full lockdown. Then a minister in Uddhav’s cabinet saw to it al that a man who criticised him on social media was picked from his home in Thane by state police, brought to the ministers house and beaten black and blue by the NCP ministers goons till he almost died. Then later some 5000 people suddenly gathered in Bandra during lock down exposing the sleeping state administration whose home minister is from NCP. And two days back three men including two sadhus were snatched from police and mercilessly beaten to death by a mob in full view of the police in Palghar. Again Uddhav and his security apparatus was found as if it was facilitating the crime. The video of the crime clearly shows that the police were mute spectators. What ? Lot of questions are being raised in social media than in the MS media because most of the mainstream media is not very keen on criticising Uddhav as he is leading a cong, NCP, Sena govt which is opposed to BJP. So his government has to be protected at any cost. The Prints communal reporters who are quick to blame BJP for everything are totally silent on 2 glaring incidents, one the man beaten in NCP ministers home and the killing of Sadhus. When Akhlaq died in UP during Akhilesh Yadav’s reign Modi was blamed but when Sadhus are lynched by a mob under the nose of police in a state ruled by non BJP parties silence is the best option. This is the strength of the corrupt parties like congress, NCP and now Sena too. They cultivate journos and a general ecosystem which then supports them in such turbulent times by remaining silent.

  3. Does it mean Shivsena has no leader like Rahul and that it is prepared to work under congress whenever opportunity arises.

  4. Praising by SAMNA on expected lines.Editor is U.T ‘s wife.In order to save her husband she has to toe the line of RAGA.
Let RAGA go to Dharavi and control epidemic disease there.Maharastra stand first’ in the country.

  5. Why Rahul gandhi not advised Uddav Thakry wherein his party is in power with Shiva sena. Let U.T control first corona at Bombay and take advise from RAGA
Samna has to praise Raga otherwise U.T govt.will fall.
    What kind of politics.?

  6. Shiv Sena being the party who uses muscle power to silence those opposed to them , i reserve my comments, as i have power, political, musle or money piwer , to save me from their onslaught. So better to be silent and defeat them by vote.

  7. What RG told in Interview is right for reality in the time crisis. He didn’t forget his service to show the right path to success. For the first time after gap Rahul’s interview is like responsible opposition leader. UT & Samana took right opportunity at right time. Even though irresponsible reporters & Modi Bhakhat will criticise the same as their agenda whether to be successful or not but start saying Modi hai subkuch mumkin hai. RG ‘s & UT ‘s maturity.

  8. One pappu praising another larger than life pappu.😜🤣🤔

Politics of compulsion to remain in power… Anyone and everyone is great only if we are allowed to be in power 😜🤔

  9. I could not make out any thing out of rahul Gandhi’s speech he was simply repeating few sentences which he seem to have mugged for every question that was asked .Another thing I noticed was that his sympathizer media was present for press conference .I am amazed at the wisdom of some people who understood whatever he said .

  10. Is the Sena joking?

Does Rahul Ji want to strategically waste PM Modi’ s valuable time to hold dynamic talks?

On what exactly? To save human Indian lives?

    Rahul Ji is an embarrassment.

He is a nice guy, but a national leader? Please, we’ve had enough.

  11. AS were worried of Mumbai,Pune, bengalure,Delhi we suggested games shouldn’t b hold in these cities, stalwart came forward to hold Games in empty stratum w/o vision everyone was speaking in compartment & not in interest of Nation after seeing colors & situations thought process was changed everyone has to think out of box with vision finally we r Indians let us protect our nation & people of India with win win situations & not with harsh grudge & biasness let’s b United let there b any political party Govt in state or Central first & prime to fight carona.

    • Typical lamba chanda bhashan.
It could have been simply said “let’s be united as a nation to control & conquer Covid 19 setting aside all our differences”

  12. The Shiv Sena is aware that Shri Rahul Gandhi’s heart was not in the alliance. When Shri Sharad Pawar failed to persuade the Gandhi family, it was the forty odd newly elected Congress MLAs who said, Poison or nectar, we are dying to have a potion – and portion – of power. It makes sense to keep the great man in good humour.
