New Delhi: Thousands of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) women workers will soon be trained as ‘messengers’ of the Narendra Modi government’s flagship schemes in the run up to the polls in various states this year as well as the all-important 2024 general election.

BJP national president J.P. Nadda will launch the Kamal Mitra programme on 19 May in Delhi, in the presence of Mahila Morcha president Vanathi Srinivasan.

The BJP’s Mahila Morcha online training programme will inform the ‘karyakartas’ (workers) about the Modi government’s flagship schemes.

As part of the programme, BJP women workers will attend an online training course with a 90-minute session each on the Modi government’s 15 flagship schemes, including Ujjwala, PM Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, and PM Jan Arogya Yojana.

Apart from Hindi, the online programme will be conducted in eight regional languages — Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Gujarati, Marathi and Bengali.

“This will help us to reach out to the ‘labharthis’ (beneficiaries of the schemes) on a large scale. If there are any difficulties being witnessed in the implementation of these schemes, those can be brought to our notice through this training programme. MPs and MLAs will also be made aware about if there are any problems in ground implementation in their  constituencies,” BJP Mahila Morcha president Vanathi Srinivasan told ThePrint.

“The Kamal Mitra is a way for us to prepare our ‘karyakartas’ and then reach out to more beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries,” she asserted.

BJP Mahila Morcha national media coordinator Neetu Dabas told ThePrint that over 10,000 workers have registered for the course until now, and the number is expected to gradually increase.

Reaching out to people

The BJP women wing plans to run the programme till December with a target to train 1 lakh ‘karyakartas’, including 200 BJP workers from each parliamentary constituency, who will be well-versed with all the schemes of the Modi government once they complete the sessions.

The party had conducted a day-long training session for its workers in March who are going to conduct these sessions.

Every BJP woman worker who registers for the course will have to take 15 sessions on as many schemes. After the completion of the course, there will also be an exam to test their knowledge following which they will be awarded an e-certificate.

These trained BJP women workers will then further spread information to their ilk about the public welfare schemes.

The content of the course includes not only information about the 15 central schemes, but also their logistical part such as where to get the form to avail the benefits, how to fill it, where to go next and how the documentation works.

“This is not just going to be theoretical knowledge. The ‘karyakartas’ will also have to go through a practical examination at the end of the course so that they are fully prepared to help women who want to avail benefits of the schemes,” Srinivasan said.

Even though the programme targets the BJP women workers, it is open for anyone to attend, including civil rights activists, volunteers, academicians and housewives, the
Mahila Morcha chief informed.
