Modi asks party MPs to ensure positive news about the party in media; remark assumes significance in the wake of pulling down of Lenin statue in Tripura.

New Delhi: Fresh from the Tripura victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised BJP MPs not to indulge in any publicity stunt that can potentially damage the party’s image.

Using a cricket analogy, the PM asked them not to throw a “no ball” when the “match is going fine”. Modi’s remark assumes significance in the wake of reports about BJP supporters allegedly taking down a statue of Lenin in Tripura.

At the BJP parliamentary party meeting Tuesday, PM Modi asked BJP MPs to shun “extremist views” even as the party workers are still in celebration mood.

This was Modi’s first address to the BJP MPs after the party’s victory in the northeast.

According to sources, the PM urged the MPs to not say anything that may ruin the positive news about the party being aired by TV channels at present.

“It (PM’s address) was meant for those who tend to give strong comments that are likely to overshadow the positive news shown on media. Those comments then will be played all day and give party negative publicity,” said a source.

“He was in a happy mood due to results. He said that match is going fine and there should not be a no ball,” the source added.

Apart from this, PM reiterated that all MPs have to go to their respective constituencies and distribute the budget booklets prepared by the government among the people.

“Some of you may be busy laying a foundation stone or meeting the voters or inaugurating works in your areas and hence have not managed to get time to distribute those booklets among the voters,” the PM reportedly said.

“So, all those who have not done it and not discussed budget with the voters should do so immediately,” Modi is believed to have told the MPs.

The day the BJP won elections in Tripura, Modi said that the media was totally clueless about the real heroes who scripted the party’s success in the state that has remained a Left bastion for more than two decades.
