Kishan Reddy tells LS ‘no info on tukde tukde gang’ that Modi, Shah linked to Shaheen Bagh

The reply is in stark contrast to the BJP's Delhi campaign, when party leaders, including Shah and Modi, made speeches replete with references to the so-called ‘tukde tukde gang’.

New Delhi: The Minister of State for Home Affairs, G. Kishan Reddy, Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that his ministry had no information on any group called the “tukde tukde gang”.

“No such information has been brought to the notice of the government by any law enforcement agency,” he said in response to a written question in the lower house of Parliament.

The minister’s statement comes on the day of the Delhi election results, in which his party trails a distant second to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Contrary to Reddy’s statement, however, the BJP’s campaign had been replete with references to the so-called ‘tukde-tukde’ gang.

The ‘tukde tukde’ campaign

Just last week, Home Minister Amit Shah had during several roadshows for the Delhi assembly polls alleged that the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests at Shaheen Bagh were a “joint venture” of the AAP, the Congress and the so-called “tukde-tukde gang”.

“Shaheen Bagh is the joint venture of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi are worried that Shaheen Bagh should not be discussed,” Shah had said at a road show in Hari Nagar. “I want to ask them why the security of the country should not be an electoral issue? Why are the people sitting in Shaheen Bagh demanding ‘Jinnah Wali Azadi’ and why the tukde-tukde gang supporting them.”

Then at a roadshow in Seemapuri, he continued his tirade saying, “Shame on these people. I want to tell all of you that the tukde-tukde gang is going to get a shock, because you are going to press the button on the lotus symbol on February 8 for the development of Delhi and the country.”

Even PM Modi didn’t desist from using the phrase in his rally speeches. Addressing his second rally in the capital after launching the party’s campaign in December, Modi had said,  “There was a time when Delhi used to witness frequent bomb blasts. These are the same people who declared Batla House encounter fake. They are the same people who are till date, saving the tukde-tukde people.”

He added, “Whether it is Seelampur, Jamia or Shaheen Bagh, protests held over the past several days regarding the Citizenship Amendment Bill is not just coincidence. This is a conspiracy. There is a political design behind this that has plans to destroy harmony in the country.”
