New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs Thursday clarified that the security cover of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has not been reduced, as was being claimed by the AAP government.

According to ministry officials, Kejriwal continues to have Z-plus security. They told ThePrint that only some of his security officials were replaced while the overall security component remained intact.

The Delhi Police also issued a statement late Thursday evening to say Kejriwal’s Z plus security cover remained “unchanged” and that there had been no reduction in the number of personnel provided to him.

Earlier, sources in the Delhi government had alleged that the chief minister’s security cover had been scaled down.

“The development at the behest of the BJP leadership has come two days after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s impressive performance in the Gujarat civic body polls,” a source told PTI.

A video statement about the same was also released by AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj, where he alleged that number of commandos of the Delhi Police in Kejriwal’s security has now been reduced to two from six.

The AAP won 27 seats in the municipal polls in Gujarat’s Surat, where party convener Kejriwal will participate in a roadshow Friday.

‘Security cover unchanged

The Delhi Police also confirmed that Kejriwal’s security cover remained intact and unchanged.

“Z plus security has been given to CM Arvind Kejriwal by Delhi Police, which comprises pilot, escort, close protection team and others in the form of 47 plain clothes security personnel and 16 uniform personnel from CRPF,” said DCP, Chinmoy Biswal, Delhi Police spokesperson.

“The security cover provided to him remains unchanged and there has been no reduction in the security personnel provided to him. The four police personnel named by AAP were replaced by others due to administrative reasons. This is a normal procedure as per the book yellow book which is followed by security. Thus the z plus security is maintained,” he added.
