New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi Wednesday spoke out against her party for reinstating persons who had allegedly misbehaved with her.

“Deeply saddened that lumpen goons get prefence [sic] in @incindia over those who have given their sweat & blood. Having faced brickbats & abuse across board for the party but yet those who threatened me within the party getting away with not even a rap on their knuckles is unfortunate,” she tweeted.

Chaturvedi’s phone has been switched off since the tweet, and no Congress leader has been able to get in touch with her, sources said.

What triggered the outburst

According to a party notice, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee reinstated a few people who had been suspended from the party following a complaint from Chaturvedi. The notice said the party had decided to give relief to the leaders at the intervention of the party’s general secretary in-charge of western UP, Jyotiraditya Scindia.

While not much is known about the actual incident, a senior Congress leader told ThePrint that it occurred six months ago, when Chaturvedi had gone to Mathura to address a press conference. The men who threatened her were allegedly close to Mahesh Pathak, now the Congress candidate for Mathura.

“In Mathura, a Congress leader got insecure thinking she would be given a ticket from there since she is from Mathura… So he sent his men to not allow her to address the press conference,” the leader said.

“He thought she was a threat to him. But since these people are close to the candidate, they got reinstated on election eve.”

‘Congress values her immensely’

The senior leader, however, is confident that Chaturvedi is not a “disgruntled” member of the Congress, and that once she communicates with other leaders, the matter will be resolved.

“The party values her immensely, and will do everything to assuage her,” the leader said.

  1. I feel for You…. I hope the leadership takes note….the lumpen goons have only contributed to the party getting a bad name and should be dealt with otherwise they will continue doing as they feel.

    • I fully agree. Any Muslim who serves a party whose raison detre is hatred for the Muslims should first stop being a Muslim. Which means, she or he should first give up Islam. Sanju Verma’s case is a queer one. She has chosen to be known by a male name like “Sanju”, but she throws her flowing hair in front of her shoulder in a very feminine way!

This is all in jest, Sanju ji. I hope you will take it in the typical male boisterous spirit, but if you feel offended by it in a typical feminine way, I apologize upfront.

Priyanka Chaturvedi has poise, like a spokesperson of a grand old party should have. But I’m amazed why even Shaina NC has poise, when she represents a party like the BJP!

Priyanka Chaturvedi should have been properly placated before taking back those goons who offended her. I would call it insensitive behavior on the part of Congress leadership.
