Mumbai: Two legislators from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s camp were shown up Monday for abusive behaviour and even physical assault.

In two separate incidents on Independence Day, Shiv Sena MLAs Santosh Bangar (Hingoli) and Prakash Surve (Magathane) were allegedly intemperate in public.

In a video that surfaced on social media, Bangar was seen abusing and assaulting a private catering manager for allegedly serving “sub-standard” mid-day meals to workers in Hingoli.

He questioned the quality of food and even slapped the in-charge, according to the viral video accessed by ThePrint.

Incidentally — under a state government scheme — workers registered with the labour department are eligible for mid-day meals.

Bangar claimed he received complaints about bad food being served, following which he decided to visit the premises.

The angry MLA is then heard in the video: “Contact the district collector immediately and suspend those who are responsible for this.”

Bangar switched to the Shinde camp just a few hours before the Maharashtra assembly floor test last month.

In the other incident, MLA Prakash Surve told an audience to break the hands and legs of former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray’s supporters.

In a programme in Dahisar’s Konkani Pada Buddha Vihar, he told his followers: “Don’t let anyone bully you. We have to show them their place. Hit them. Don’t worry, Prakash Surve is here. If you can’t break their hands, break their legs. I will arrange for your bail. We won’t fight with anybody but if anybody’s tries to fight with us, we won’t leave them.” This he is heard saying in a video seen by ThePrint.

The Thackeray camp has now registered a complaint in the Dahisar police station against Surve.

Other incidents across the country

In his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke of abusive behaviour towards women and expressed his agony over an “ill habit” that the nation had developed — of “insulting women”.

Tyagi was arrested earlier this month after a video went viral where he was seen abusing a woman neighbour at the Grand Omaxe apartment complex.

In another incident, Aam Aadmi Party legislator Karambir Singh Ghuman of Dausya was caught on video making way for his car and that of others through the barriers of a toll plaza in Cholang in Punjab. None of them reportedly paid the toll.

Ghuman was also seen scolding the staff at the toll booth.
