New Delhi: Bakshish Singh Virk, the sitting BJP MLA from Assandh constituency in Haryana, who claimed to have rigged EVMs in a viral video, has slipped to the third position in his constituency in the state assembly elections.

In a 39-second clip that was widely shared on social media, Virk can reportedly be heard saying that no matter which button is pressed on an EVM, the vote would go to the BJP.

“Wherever you vote, we will get to know which person has voted for whom. Don’t think we won’t know. We deliberately don’t tell you, but if we want we can find out who you voted for,” he was heard saying.

EC’s show cause notice

On Sunday, Virk was served a show-cause notice by the Election Commission, which has been battling allegations of EVM tampering by the Opposition for several years now. The video was also shared by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who called Virk “the most honest man in the BJP”.

Virk, however, had termed the video “fake.”

Trends available with News18 at 6 pm showed Haryana heading for an uncertain finish with BJP leading in 40 of the 90 seats and Congress in 31, while the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) had won 10.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won all 10 seats in the state.

The results have also come as a surprise given reports of a bitter factional feud in Congress’ Haryana unit, coupled with a weak central leadership.
