New Delhi: BJP chief Amit Shah has sought the opinion of his party leaders on how to improve the party’s image and connect with masses, especially Dalits, as well as strengthen the organisation ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Shah also sought views of the party functionaries on how to celebrate the Modi government’s achievements in the past four years.

He was addressing a meeting of 140 national office-bearers and state presidents of the BJP in the capital Monday.

Shah also stressed on the party leaders to think of ways to connect with Dalits.

“The BJP chief has asked the party leaders to ensure maximum participation of Dalits at central level and to bring them into the party fold,” said a senior BJP leader.

“The focus is to woo Dalits and to make them feel important in the party,” the BJP leader added.

With the Modi government completing four years at the Centre, senior leaders said various events would be organised throughout the country for 15 days starting from 26 May. The focus will be on the achievements of the Modi government.

Shah reportedly listed the achievements and put out figures against each one of them.

Why the numbers are important

A senior BJP leader said that every party leader needs to reach out to the masses and explain to them the government’s achievements in simple language. When Shah repeatedly quoted the numbers, it helped others to memorise them, the senior leader added.

“It is the four years of achievement that we need to focus on and we need to remember them by heart. We will celebrate four years of ‘vikas’ with people,” added the leader.

Whispers about Karnataka poll results

Quoting Shah’s “conservative estimate”, BJP leaders who attended the meeting said that the party should bag 130 seats in the Karnataka polls, results of which will be declared Tuesday.

“He said that party will get more than that. We should be ready to celebrate the victory in Karnataka. We will form government there,” said a source.

There were meetings of general secretaries, state presidents and morchas separately in the BJP headquarters Monday.

ThePrint had reported earlier that PM Modi would address a first-of-its-kind national executive of all office-bearers of BJP morchas on 17 May.
