New Delhi: Bhagwant Mann of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will take oath as the Punjab Chief Minister on 16 March, said a party spokesperson Friday.

Mann also will join AAP national convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for a roadshow on 13 March to mark the party’s thumping victory in the Punjab assembly elections, the spokesperson added. This roadshow is slated to be held in Amritsar, informed senior leaders of the party.

Mann had earlier told mediapersons that he will take oath as the Punjab chief minister in Khatkarkalan village, home of the legendary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, and not at the Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh.

Senior party leaders in Punjab also said that Mann will meet Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on 12 March.

The date of oath taking was decided after Mann’s arrival in Delhi Friday to meet Kejriwal at the latter’s residence, said party leaders. They also said that Mann formally invited Kejriwal for the roadshow.

The AAP recorded a landslide victory in Punjab with 92 out of 117 seats Thursday. The AAP’s stupendous win in Punjab will also buoy the party’s numbers in the Rajya Sabha. With 92 MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha, it will now win all five Upper House seats due for elections on March 31. The party will also win the other two seats falling vacant in July.
