New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi found himself on prime time debates after his speech Tuesday where he announced free rations to the poor till November.

The ban on 39 Chinese apps by the government also continued to occupy space on most news channels.

If NDTV 24×7’s Vishnu Som was an oasis of calm, Deepak Chaurasia on News Nation declared, with immense patriotic gusto, “Main bhi sainik”.

Following Prime Minister Modi’s address to the nation, CNN News 18 anchor Marya Shakil debated the pro-poor move amid the Covid-19 crisis.

Shakil quoted Rahul Gandhi who had earlier claimed that surplus rice was being used to make sanitisers.

“Now the food is being used to feed the poor for six months,” she said.

Congress spokensperson Pawan Khera, who has been quite fiery during debates lately, responded almost immediately, “So is he (PM Modi) obliging the country? He isn’t paying from his own pocket.”

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi interjected, “Today, the migrants are on the roads only because of them (Congress).”

But Khera was unnerved — “I wish Nehruji had this excuse. He would say for 800 years the country was colonised so please give me some time,” he added.

On ABP News, anchor Rubika Liyaquat discussed the theories that had come up before PM’s address.

With great energy, Liyaquat launched herself into a monologue, saying, “Koi keh raha tha ki PM China par kahenge, kisine kaha ki Corona ki vaccine ko leke ek bada ehlaan ho jata he, lekin PM ka ye rashtra sandas desh ke gareebon ke liye nikhla.”

She stressed the big announcement — “80 crore gareebon ke liye PM Modi ne aaj bohot bada elaan kiya. PM Gareeb Kalyan Yojna jo aaj khatam ho rahi the , aaj aakhri din tha, usse Diwali Chhat tak badha diya geya hai”.

Onto other discussions. Vishnu Som debated Modi government’s decision to ban 59 Chinese apps citing national security concerns, including Tik Tok on NDTV 24×7.

Advocate Shreya Singhal said, “The core of this is not an anti-India or anti-China narrative but freedom of speech.”

She noted how TikTok, especially, was a platform of expression for several people, adding that it was also a revenue source for many in India.

BJP member Khemchand Sharma disagreed completely: “Apps have been banned as they were stealing data. The revenues earned were going to China which was being used against our country and armed forces.”

On News Nation, anchor Deepak Chaurasia started his show by taking credit for starting “Mein bhi sainik” and “boycott China” just a day after the Chinese intrusion and now the government had acted: “… ab Modi sarkar ne digital strike karte hue 59 Chinese apps par ban laga kar digital azadi ke sangram ki shuruwat kar di hai, he said.

Modi ka China pa ‘digital’ prahar, China par ab aar par,” anchor Anjana Om Kashyap declared on Aaj Tak. She also noted China’s response to the ban Tuesday, when the country’s embassy in New Delhi said the move violates international laws governing global trade and e-commerce.

She added that India’s move had obviously hit its mark since the Chinese had voiced their concern over the move.

Republic TV was in a celebratory mood. After the Bombay High Court dismissed the FIRs against Arnab Goswami with respect to the Palghar incident, Goswami’s debate of the day was #RepublicDefeatsSonia.

“Today the Bombay High Court’s historic judgment, in my view should be a lesson for Sonia Gandhi Antonio Maino and her coterie of pathetic sycophants that a free independent and fearless media network cannot be crushed,” declared Goswami.

Just as Goswami said “let’s debate”, a clip narrating the entire series of events was played with Goswami emulating Rocky Balboa by pumping his fists in the air, signalling victory.

BJP spokesperson and senior advocate Gaurav Bhatia said, “This was also like a mini-emergency imposed by the Congress thinking it will scare Arnab and Republic. But the dynasty is not above law.”

  1. The ban is not effective for people who knows how android work. No doubt Google can put a ‘not available for your country’ tag, but who will stop the third party installers from installing the apps. I have tried it many times and it works. THE BLANKET BAN IS NOT EFFECTIVE AT ALL. What should be done is asking the people not to install these apps. WHAT COMES FIRST IS YOUR COUNTRY.
