New Delhi: Monday night was going along with its usual suspects — these days that’s the Sushant Singh Rajput death case — when Sachin Pilot landed on prime time with a splash. NewsX was among the first to discuss the Congress party’s future after rebel Pilot and his MLAs met with Priyanka Gandhi to resolve their issues. NDTV India focused on the catastrophic floods and landslides across the country.

First, to Mirror Now, where anchor Tanvi Shukla looked at the future of higher education in the country, with 603 universities out of 818 willing to conduct UGC exams, but the governments of Delhi and Maharashtra deciding to cancel exams of the universities under them. “Is politics ruining students’ future?” she asked.

Akshay Marathe of the AAP said, “I took an online exam today and can assure you that if I didn’t have a laptop, a silent room in my house and speedy Wi-Fi connection, it would’ve been impossible to take the exam.” Adding that these facilities would not be available to a large majority of the country, he asked, “Why is the Central government holding their futures to ransom?”

BJP spokesperson Tuhin Sinha commented, “We don’t know how long the pandemic is going to continue. If this is an opportunity to be innovative and carry out an experiment with all due precautions, we should go ahead with it.”

On India Today, Rajdeep Sardesai took up the truce between Sachin Pilot and the Congress: “Sachin Pilot should have done what intelligent politicians do, that is, show some patience,” he declared.

“I wish things hadn’t come to this. I wish things could have been resolved earlier. But better late than never. The credit to bring back Sachin Pilot should go to Rahul Gandhi,” said the party’s Supriya Shrinate, like a loyal foot soldier.

BJP’s Sudhanshu Trivedi began by saying, “As far as the BJP is concerned, this was totally an internal matter,” but couldn’t resist adding, “The handsome-looking, English-speaking nikamma and gaddaar will have to adjust to the self-proclaimed, rustic and down-to-earth manipulator.” Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had referred to Pilot in these unflattering terms.

CNN News 18 discussed the attack on a BJP leader in Jammu and Kashmir, the third in the past week, complete with the hashtag #YourBulletsCantStopUs.

“They (people who are bringing in guns) have been killing since 1989 and now our people need to understand if they are our friends or foes,” said Kashmiri activist Touseef Raina.

“To call their bluff, our people need to have the same kind of unity that they have. But here, our locals put up with it when our women are trolled and abused for holding up the tricolour in the volatile area of Anantnag,” said political analyst Mir Yana.

BJP spokesperson Narendra Taneja commented, “Today we are seeing how desperate Pakistan is.”

India TV‘s Rajat Sharma discussed both Sachin Pilot and the Sushant Singh Rajput case. First, he talked about how Pilot was ‘pressurised’ to meet Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi after the political debacle in Rajasthan. “The final patch-up has been done,” he said.

He then proceeded to Sushant Singh Rajput’s case and revealed questions Rhea Chakraborty had been asked so far by the Enforcement Directorate — it’s unclear how he knew about this. He also went on to describe the chronology of how Rhea had left Sushant’s house on 8 June.

Meanwhile Aaj Tak continued with its version of a trial, with anchor Anjana Om Kashyap loudly asking, “Kya Sushant ki kamaai Rhea ne udaayi” (Did Rhea Chakraborty use up all of Sushant’s earnings?) The channel then speculated on the questions that the ED might ask Rhea, by recreating the inquiry session with rather poor graphics.

Kashyap also pointed out that the earnings Rhea Chakraborty has shown in her income tax returns are different from what she is actually spending, acting as though this was clinching evidence.

The channel also decided that Sushant Singh Rajput’s life was better before Rhea Chakraborty came into it.
