New Delhi: Even as India witnessed massive spikes in Covid-19 cases, prime time Sunday continued to focus on the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Aaj Tak’s panel debated whether Rhea Chakraborty was a bad girlfriend to Rajput, while India Today discussed the deceased actor’s finances.

Actor Rhea Chakraborty spoke on a number of news channels on Friday, many of which re-aired their interviews Sunday evening, including NDTV 24×7. During that conversation with anchor Sonia Singh, Chakraborty said, “He was not even nominated for his best performances at award shows. That upset him, as did frivolous blind articles against him.”

Aaj Tak’s Anjana Om Kashyap decided she must reveal “Rhea ka sach” (Rhea’s truth) by saying, “Rajput was a 34-year-old boy and was in a live-in relationship. His girlfriend didn’t talk or respond to him and she has admitted the same in an interview. She has also said that her relationship with Sushant wasn’t very special and now there are allegations anyway.”

Kashyap conveniently chose her own truth when she asked, “Isn’t it the responsibility of the partner, especially when your counterpart is going through mental health issues, doing things like leaving them or blocking their phone. Shouldn’t she take responsibility for the same?”

This question was posed to lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, who responded, “It was the responsibility of Rhea, for sure, because she knew that he was suffering through depression. Leaving him in this state is not punishable by law but is morally wrong.”

Meanwhile, Zee News’ Aditi Tyagi and Sachin Arora shouted “Main bhi Sushant” (I am also Sushant), in an alleged show of solidarity with the late actor.

Tyagi explained, “In this case, we feel that the people should also talk. What people of this nation say should matter.” She went on, “Yeh sampoorn nyay ka andolan hai, yeh TRP ki ladai nahin hai,” (This is a fight for complete justice, not for TRPs). Sure, if you say so.

“You won’t witness any drama on this show,” she added, without a trace of irony.

Arora displayed his dedication to the cause of justice by changing his WhatsApp display picture to ‘I am Sushant’ while on air.

India Today discussed audiotapes that are allegedly of Sushant Singh Rajput discussing his dwindling financial situation with his wealth managers. The channel also claimed to have accessed tapes of the actor discussing his bipolar disorder with his managers.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri had these pearls of wisdom to offer: “My first takeaway is that never listen to ignorant people. I don’t agree with all these theories that he was bipolar or depressed. Five times a day I tell my family that I am depressed. I don’t want to stay in Mumbai, but these are typical insecurities.”

Indian Television Academy’s Anu Ranjan said, “He was totally aware of what he wanted. Taking that into consideration, this whole argument about him being unwell is not a joke. No one goes looking for it, it comes to you.” Huh?

NewsX took the road less travelled and discussed the possibility of a missile threat from China. Wing Commander (R.) Praful Bakshi, former Chief Spokesperson IAF, Ministry of Defence, stated, “Across Uttaranchal, we can still take a very strong position towards the border. We can threaten China there if we want to.”

“Given the advantage they have by being in the area where they are, they certainly aren’t going to go back unless the cost of being there is raised,” commented Maj Gen.(R.) Shashi Asthana, Strategic Analyst China Affairs.
