When I was a child, I spent long hours day-dreaming and making crosses, pentagrams, stars, triangles and circles on reams and reams of paper. Later, I realised all these signs or doodles had a significance in witchcraft! The pentagram, for instance, is an insignia of protection when magic is being performed; it can also denote the five elements—water, fire, earth, air and spirit which are an intrinsic part of any ritual or spell. Back then, I used to answer ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions mainly through doodles that I made on pages as well as the petals of flowers.

Looking at a blank space, too, I can see figures or objects and make predictions thereof. Wiccans perform magic, which may be in the form of spells for the well-being of self and others, without harming anyone. Wiccans, being healers, can heal psychically, channelise energies, do fortune telling and divination. We can also be clairvoyant and clairsentient due to our inherent, intuitive and psychic powers. These powers are enhanced in us because of our connection with nature, the gods and the goddesses. We are one with nature and the universe. All our magical powers are derived and accrued from this great bounty of mother earth and ‘the all that is’. Therefore, it stands to reason that when we take, we must also replenish. This, by far, is the main principle of Wicca and Shamanism.

Shamans and Wiccans around the world can be seen collectively drumming on full-moon nights. This is a world-wide phenomenon, which signifies collective earth healing. A common time is designated, and during that period of time, collective drumming takes place globally. Wicca celebrates and reveres the universe, the nature and the planet earth that we live on. We harmonise with the earth energy and the energy of the cosmos and we also channelise and raise this energy into our sacred space to conduct rituals and spells. So, there is nothing supernatural about this religion; practicing it is absolutely natural, as energy is drawn naturally to manifest a particular desire into the ritual or spell.

There is magic everywhere in this universe and on this beautiful earth. The trees, the mountains, the vegetation, the sky, the ocean and the stars are nothing but the representations of magic manifested! So, it stands to reason that whatever you want can be manifested. Each one of us can do magic, for there is magic in everything around us; in the birds, in the bees, in the trees, in the sun and in the moon! There is magic even in the wind and the breeze. Magic is nothing but manifestation of anything that you desire through the energy of the cosmos, of which there is an abundance. According to the quantum laws of physics, particles of energy move of their own accord, without a formal structure or pattern in the space that is many, many layers above the earth, which Wiccans refer to as the other world or the other dimension. Whereas everything on this earth manifests according to certain laws and patterns of nature.

Every living being and object is made up of atoms, which are further made up of even tinier particles, and the structure of that physical thing or object that we see and perceive is due to the formation of those tiny atoms in a structured manner. Whereas, in the infinite, the energy particles move randomly without structure, so from that dimension, you can manifest or change anything by enforcing your intention with your free will. That’s the realm of the divine, or the divine will. In fact, this is a space where a perfect you exists, replete with all your desires! So, in our rituals or spellwork, the free will of the Wiccan is at play and the energy of the divine space, or your higher self, is channelled into that ritual or spell to manifest a particular wish. I will, further on in this book, elucidate some simple spells and the methodology thereof of the spellcraft. I will also enlist the tools of the Craft and explain how to form the sacred circle in your sacrosanct space wherein the rituals are performed.

For the time being, however, I’d like to explain just how easy it is to perform a simple magic spell to heal yourself through mother earth and the grandfather moon. The Shamans believe that the earth is their mother who heals them and the moon is the grandfather who overlooks and oversees the magic of this existence. They also believe the energies of the moon are all powerful and probably the purest and highest form of energy in the universe. What better to use for magical work! Most magic is performed in accordance to the cycles and phases of the moon. All growth spells and magic for increase are undertaken on a growing or waxing moon. Spells for completion, abundance and love are performed two days before and on the full moon night, whereas spells for banishing and binding are performed when the moon is waning or reducing.

On a new moon, one performs spells for a new relationship or a new business or venture. So, for many years now, I’ve been cleansing my aura with the powerful energy of the moon, especially on a growing moon, in its waxing ascendency. Healing and charging yourself on a full moon night is the ultimate experience. All you do is to imagine a huge, elongated vacuum cleaner descending from the moon onto you, sweeping away accumulated, congealed and clogged energy from around and inside you. Just feel the deep-cleansing ritual. You feel healed, rejuvenated by this magical cleansing ritual, sweeping away the dirt and negativity in the aura around you, making you feel lighter, brighter, and cleansed.
