In an effort to secure the north-south vote bank, the Congress has decided to make party president Mallikarjun Kharge the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha. Pramod Tiwari, a Brahmin leader from Uttar Pradesh, has been made deputy leader. Now the big leaders who were staking their claim to these posts are obviously disappointed. Many have adopted the grapes-are-sour attitude. But the leaders agreeing with the high command say it was a situation of ‘ek anaar, sau beemar’. So, the party gave it to the most in need. Whatever happened to the principle of one man-one post proposal of Udaipur Chintan Shivir.

Hunger duty

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the BJP headquarters on Friday with two officers on special duty (OSDs). As Dhami left for a meeting, one OSD felt hungry and ordered food for himself. Just when he was about to eat, he had to step out of the room to take a call. He returned to see that someone had wiped his plate clean. Food was ordered again and the OSD was second-time unlucky.

He ordered food for the third time and the phone rang yet again but this time the OSD decided to take the call while eating. But by then the CM had left and the officer was summoned. So, he eventually couldn’t eat. Becoming an OSD has its pros and cons.

Small briefings, big talk

These days, a national spokesperson of BJP often gets the facts wrong during press conferences. He comes with full preparation but starts digressing when he speaks. He describes a national party as a local one and mixes up leaders of opposition parties while launching attacks during press briefings. To handle the situation, he is slipped a note by party members but the damage is already done by then. It is so heard that there is going to be a training programme for spokespersons.

Meeting of Panipat

As soon as the meeting of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members started in Haryana’s Samalkha, near Panipat, rumours about a possible reshuffle in the organisation started in BJP. Some are hopeful for an opportunity while others have believed that their responsibility is ending. But one thing is sure—there is going to be a change. Where is this information coming from? Nobody has been told anything but when there is a war going on in Panipat, something or the other will happen.

Karnataka PSC Prelims

Some BJP functionaries, these days, are busy memorising the distance between different cities of Karnataka and the time taken to cover it. Bengaluru to Mangalore, Hubli to Mandya. The party’s workers are mugging it all up because Home Minister Amit Shah can call a meeting of the office bearers anytime. When you are in a meeting with Amit Shah and you don’t know the distance between one city to another in an election state, you don’t know when and of what level scolding you’re going to get. So, state leaders are cramming the syllabus to pass the electoral exam.

Costly alcohol

Many songs have been composed in praise of alcohol, but the BJP is reportedly coming up with a musical parody on it. Alcohol is a terrible thing. If its consumption doesn’t harm you, bootlegging is sure to land you in jail. A rhythmic parody is being made on a similar theme. It has been heard that the parody will be shared on social media, in Delhi and Telangana. The purpose of doing this is to increase the restlessness of the ruling parties in these states. Do you get it?

Holi is about playing in the mud

This time on Holi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s home was the most fun among all politicians. Union ministers, BJP leaders and others visited Singh’s home to celebrate the festival. Singh also played with colours with great enthusiasm. It is so heard that Rajnath Singh joked how the real fun of Holi only comes from playing in the mud. It didn’t take long for the people to understand Singh’s hint—the lotus will bloom only when…

New taskmaster DGP

Uttar Pradesh is exceptional in some ways. After creating a record of being the acting DGP of the state for more than nine months, Anand Kumar is to retire in the month of March. Kumar is also the director general of vigilance and intelligence department of the state. In spite of everything, Umesh Pal, the witness of Raju Pal murder and two gunners of the police department were killed in broad daylight in Prayagraj. Now someone from 1988, 1989 or 1990 Indian Police Service (IPS) batch is likely to get the responsibility for the new DGP. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given the ‘task’ to the police to bring the active mafia in the state to the ground.

Jaishankar for Lok Sabha 2024 elections?

There is a strong rumour that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar can contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 from any one seat in Bengaluru Rural, Visakhapatnam Rural and Thiruvananthapuram. Among these, Thiruvananthapuram can be ruled out because Jaishankar is a Tamil Brahmin and it’s the Nairs who dominate this seat. The speculations started when the BJP high command asked the minister to address the youth in these three constituencies.
