In today’s featured cartoon, Satish Acharya sums up the economic situation emerging out of Russia’s war in Ukraine, from India’s perspective, and takes a dig and PM Narendra Modi’s attempt to mediate between the countries on phone calls with their presidents, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The cartoonist depicts Modi trying to prop up the falling rupee while trying to avoid slipping on oil and running away from the marauding bear, which represents Russia. This oil price surge is expected to significantly increase India’s import bill in the coming weeks.
