‘Just a drill,’ says UK govt on cutting gas use & Tory PM candidate Liz Truss’ ‘act of integrity’

In today’s featured cartoon, Martin Rowson remarks on the skyrocketing gas prices in the UK with European benchmark natural gas prices recorded as high as 10 times the price a year ago at €276.75 per MWh last week.

The National Grid of the UK has employed measures like the annual emergency gas shortage drill, which involves deciding which customers would have to cut gas use in a crisis. The drill has been extended from two to four days. However, the government says that the exercise is a routine part of the energy industry calendar, insisting that there is no risk to gas supplies this winter.
