New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) Kirti Singh of Uttar Pradesh and Chanchala Bohra of Karnataka are among the eight women in the top 10 winners of a short story competition organised by the Steel Authority of India (SAIL).

The 10 winners — five each in Hindi and English category — were selected from about 1,000 entries received from across the nation. The competition was organised on the theme ‘SAIL: Building a culture of happiness, where every smile matters’.

The awards, divided in five categories — diamond, gold, silver, bronze, and consolation — include cash prizes up to Rs 10,000 along with certificates. The list of winners include Pravinta Kumari Lama, Nitu Kumari, T Avinash, Priya Mandal, Hema Kumari Thayal, and Snehal Pawar.

“It’s incredibly inspiring to see that 80 per cent of the winners, 8 out of 10, are women. The diverse stories received from across the country beautifully illustrate how SAIL steel is the foundation of the nation’s progress and how SAIL as a company is dedicated to enriching the lives of its people.

“Each story, brimming with SAIL’s vibrant culture of bringing happiness into people’s lives, has strengthened SAIL’s bond with the people of India, highlighting the crucial role of steel in the nation,” Amarendu Prakash, chairman and managing director of SAIL, said in a statement.

The competition, launched in February this year, invited creative stories of 800 words in either Hindi or English from Indian citizens, including current and retired SAIL personnel and their families. The winning stories will also be considered for inclusion in SAIL’s in-house magazine. PTI MG MAH MAH
