Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) A 59-year-old woman was duped of Rs 1.15 crore by four persons who promised to get her a subsidised MHADA flat, a Mumbai police official said on Friday.
The victim, who retired from a reputed insurance company, came in contact with accused Ramchandra Acharekar, Prabhjan alias Prabhu Pujar, Ramakant Mahajani, and Satish alias Sachin Suryavanshi in March 2022, who claimed to have good contacts within MHADA, the Shahunagar police station official said.
“They told her they had helped several people get such flats. Believing them, the woman paid Rs 1.50 crore, including Rs 47 lakh cash. When she did not receive an allotment letter in the following three years, she asked them to return her money. The accused paid only Rs 34.5 lakh,” he said.
On her complaint, the four have been booked in a Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita case for cheating, breach of trust and other offences, the official added.
No arrest has been made in the case so far, the official said. PTI ZA BNM
