Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) Shiv Sena Minister Uday Samant on Friday urged the Maharashtra legislative council chairman Ram Shinde to look into the issue of the clash between supporters of a BJP and NCP (SP) MLA in the Vidhan Bhavan premises and take necessary action.

Speaking in the legislative council, Samant raised the issue of the altercation that occurred on the premises of the Vidhan Bhavan on Thursday, saying such an incident had never taken place in the state legislature.

“It is the right of the Speaker and Chairman to decide what has to be done in this matter. Such a thing has never happened in the history of the Vidhan Sabha. The traditions of the Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad should be protected. The Chairman should look into it and take necessary action,” Samant said.

Supporters of NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MLA Jitendra Awhad and BJP’s Gopichand Padalkar were involved in a scuffle and clashed briefly in the Vidhan Bhavan lobby on Thursday.

Shocking videos of the two groups pummelling each other and having to be dragged back by security personnel are doing the rounds on social media.

The altercation started with a verbal spat outside the assembly building on Wednesday, during which both MLAs and their supporters exchanged expletives. PTI PR ARU
