New Delhi, Jul 19 (PTI) A vegetable vendor has been arrested with over 200 grams of narcotics from the Anand Vihar Railway Station, police said on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Rahul, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun, was arrested after police laid a trap at the service road near Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg, adjacent to Anand Vihar railway station, on July 17, an official said.
“On searching him, 213.5 grams of heroin were recovered. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered,” a senior police officer said.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Rahul used to procure heroin from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and supply it to contacts in Delhi. Police said he operated as a courier person, blending in with regular commuters at busy transit hubs like Anand Vihar to avoid detection.
The accused, who studied up to Class 12 and worked as a vegetable vendor, took to drug trafficking due to financial hardship, lured by the promise of quick money, the officer said.
Efforts are underway to identify the backwards and forward links of the supply chain, including the source in Bareilly and the intended recipients in Delhi. PTI SSJ SHS HIG
