Pune, Jun 9 (PTI) Several political parties and organisations took out a protest march in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur to protest against the proposed Shaktipeeth Expressway project.
The march was taken out on Monday.
Among those who led the march were Swambhimani Paksha leader Raju Shetti, Congress leader Satej Patil and several other leaders and farmers.
The march was carried out till the district collector’s office with a demand to scrap the Shaktipeeth Expressway project.
The Rs 86,300 crore Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway is 810 kilometres long and will pass through 12 districts of Maharashtra.
Speaking to reporters, Shetti said they will not back down to the suppression from the government and will continue to oppose the expressway project.
Shetti had earlier said the expressway project was not a development initiative but one driven by vested interests. It is meant to benefit a select few at the cost of common people and farmers, according to him. PTI SPK NP
