New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday the politics of appeasement, which led to the Partition, was the reason for the continuance of the “evil practice” of triple talaq for so long.

Speaking at an event here, Shah defended the law criminalising triple talaq, saying it is going to benefit Muslims, and not other communities.

Coming down heavily on the Congress, he said the party has “no shame” and continues to oppose the law on triple talaq.

“The election of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister in 2014 was the beginning of the end of politics of appeasement and the 2019 mandate is to end it forever,” said Shah, the BJP president.

He was speaking on ‘Abolition of Triple Talaq: Correcting a Historic Wrong’ at an event organised by the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation here.

The legislation to criminalise instant triple talaq was passed by Parliament in the last session.

  1. If Congress is guilty of appeasement BJP is no better. They are now focusing on appeasement of majority to shift their attention. Scrapping of TT, article 370 are just few to begin. More would follow soon.

  2. Frankly as a Muslim I would prefer a common equal law for everyone under a secular united nation.
But What business has this Hindutva leader to comment on what is the internal matter for Muslims.
Most Muslims would welcome comments from secular Hindus who have genuine concerns about the welfare of Muslims and likewise.
But Mr Amit Shah has no credentials to comment Muslim welfare, he is the henchman of the butcher Prachark of Gujarat and the Surat riots infamy.
If Amit shah really wanted to help Muslims he should do something about the 70,000 Muslim refugees from the riots in Ahmedabad still displaced. If Mr Amit Shah cared about Muslims he would have worked towards their welfare when Juhapura formed part of his MLA constituency in Ahmedabad.
Google Juhapura, it’s a shanty slum town where Muslims from the old city of Ahmedabad fled during the riots. Muslims are not allowed to get back to their ancestral homes in the old city on the pretext for their own safety. These riot refugees have settled on a strip of land next to a highway.
Although the citizens of Juhapura pay taxes, like GST and income taxes, the Ahmedabad municipality has not provided paved roads, water pipes, sewage drains or municipal cleaning like Hindu areas, no government schools. Instead the Gujarat government has invested in a massive police station in the middle of these displaced people.
Some people are Master strategists, they wins votes by poisoning minds, polarising votes by hatred for minorities, dividing our beautiful land.
Triple Talaq is a evil practice, so is instigating riots to murder of defenceless people, in order to garner the vote.
Amit Shah here is playing to the gallery, his majority Hindu vote bank, this is Muslim bashing at its highest level in the pretext of helping the community.
The majority of people living in Hindustan are good people, but the wicked amongst us have grabbed power, I fear for the future of my country.
