Patna, Jul 16 (PTI) The Patna district administration has instructed authorities concerned to ensure that the airstrip of the Bihta Air Force Station is made ‘Nilgai’ (blue bulls) free at the earliest.

Besides, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been directed to conduct special drives to catch stray dogs in the vicinity of Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport, here.

Patna Divisional Commissioner Kumar Ravi on Saturday directed officials of the Environment department, district administration and Indian Air Force (IAF) to coordinate with each other and ensure that the airstrip of the Bihta Air Force Station is made ‘Nilgai’ free.

According to a statement issued by the Patna divisional commissioner’s office, “The Bihta Air Force Station should be made ‘Nilgai’ free. Authorities must ensure their relocation to a safer place. Besides, Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will launch special drives to catch stray dogs in the vicinity of Patna airport. The PMC recently caught 30 stray dogs from the airport area”.

The decision was taken in a meeting of airport environment management committee chaired by Ravi. Officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) were also present at the meeting.

“Officials of the department concerned were also instructed to take strict action against the abattoir and meat shops that are operating around the Patna airport. Garbage dumps, if any, must be removed as they invite birds around the airport. This will prevent incidents like bird strikes. The Section 91 of the Aircraft Rules (1937) should be strictly enforced in the area”, said the statement.

A Delhi-bound SpiceJet aircraft carrying 191 people, including two infants, caught fire after a bird hit on June 20, soon after taking off from Patna, but was able to make an emergency landing back at the airport without any harm to the crew and passengers. PTI PKD RG RG
