New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his reply to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday by thanking and congratulating the President for her ‘visionary’ address.

Soon, he made a veiled dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his speech in the Parliament Tuesday where Gandhi alleged that the government tweaked rules in favour of Adani and said the clause that no one without any prior experience would be involved in the development of airports was done away with.

PM Modi, lashing at the Opposition, said that the government has been working for the nation for 25 years. “You can not breach this trust with your lies,” he added.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju addressing the Lon Sabha said that before 2014, daily new scams were being reported in newspapers & people were losing faith in politicians. He added that PM Narendra Modi re-established public’s faith in the government and elected representatives.

On Tuesday, both the Houses of the Parliament took up debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s Address after three days of stalemate over Adani-Hindenburg row.

5:19pm: PM Modi took a jibe at Rahul Gandhi’s unfurling tricolour at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk during the recently concluded Bharat Jodo Yatra and said that he already did so in January 1992 despite threat from terrorists, and without security.

5:12pm: Hitting at the Opposition, PM Modi said that abuses and allegations towards him will first have to go through crores of citizens. “I have been working for the nation for 25 years, you can not breach this trust with your lies,” he added.

4:57pm: “More than 3 crore people have got free houses, 9 crore have got free gas connection, 11 crore women have got toilets. 8 crore families have got proper water supply and through Ayushman Bharat Yojana 2 crore families have benefited. How will they trust your lies and abuses,” PM Modi questioned while taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi.

4:45pm: PM Modi said India will always remember the decade before 2014 as the lost decade. “2030 decade is India’s decade,” he added.

4:41pm: PM Modi, in his Lok Sabha speech, said that Opposition leaders should thank the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for uniting them. PM Modi’s remarks came on the backdrop of frequent ED raids being conducted on leaders of Opposition parties.

4:30pm: PM Modi slammed the UPA-II regime and termed Congress’s rule a decade of corruption and terror. “While the world was busy enhancing its technology, the UPA-II were busy with scams like 2G. There were two-three decades of instability; now there is political stability in the country, a decisive government is in place,” he said.

4:27pm: PM Modi said that India is the second largest country in the world in terms of mobile manufacturing. “In terms of domestic air traffic we stand at number 3. In energy consumption, as a consumer, India is on 3rd number. In renewable energy’s capacity we are on 4th,” he added.

4:23pm: PM Modi said the pandemic divided the world & destruction due to war has caused instability in several countries. “There is acute inflation, unemployment, and a food crisis as well. Which Indian would not be proud that even in such times, the nation is the world’s 5th largest economy?” he pointed out.

4:15pm: PM Modi said it is a matter of happiness that India has got the opportunity to preside over the G20 summit. “It is a proud moment for the country and 140 crore citizens. But some people have problems with this as well,” he added.

4:00 pm: Without directly naming Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi said after the speech of some people, their entire ecosystem and their supporters were jubilant. “They might have had a good sleep,” he said.

3:55 pm: PM Modi thanked congratulated the President for her ‘visionary’ address.

Her speech as the head of our democracy is historic and inspiring for women. She has also increased the pride of the tribal society.

1:38pm: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday wore a special jacket to Parliament – one made of material recycled from discarded plastic bottles. 1:10pm: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday said that the Congress leaders are insinuating PM Narendra Modi amid the Hindenburg-Adani row. The issue figured prominently in the debate with the opposition MPs pressing their demand for a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

“It’s very smart to say we are giving data, we will corroborate it…but it is completely infused with insinuation against PM Modi and that’s what we are objecting to. They are overtly insinuating the PM,” she replied to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s claims which indirectly referred to Adani.

Kharge claimed that the wealth of one of the closest friends of PM Modi increased by 13 times in 2.5 years.

“In 2014 it was 50,000 crore while in 2019 it became 1 lakh crore. What magic happened that suddenly in two years assets worth 12 lakh crores came, is it due to favor of friendship?” he asked.

12:30 pm: During the debate on Motion of Thanks on President’s address, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge says he is “more patriotic than anyone here”.

“If I speak the truth, is it anti-national? I’m not anti-national. I’m more patriotic than anyone here. I’m a ‘bhoomi-putra’…You’re looting the country & telling me that I’m anti-national: Mallikarjun Kharge says in Rajya Sabha.

12:20 pm: Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge alleges wealth of one of PM Modi’s ‘closest friends’ increased increased 13 times in 2.5 years.

“Wealth of one of the closest friends of PM Modi increased by 13 times in 2.5 years. In 2014 it was Rs 50,000 crore while in 2019 it became Rs 1 lakh crore. What magic happened that suddenly in two years assets worth Rs 12 lakh crores came, is it due to favour of friendship,” Kharge says in Upper House, reports ANI.
