Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Maharashtra), Jul 16 (PTI) The wife of a murder victim consumed poison at the office of the Beed superintendent of police on Wednesday afternoon to protest the delay in the arrest of the culprits.

Dnyaneshwari Munde, wife of Mahadev Munde, was admitted to the civil hospital and was out of danger, a doctor said.

Mahadev Munde, resident of Parli in central Maharashtra’s Beed district, was abducted on October 19, 2023. He was found dead three days later, but no arrest has been made in the case yet.

Demanding that her husband’s murderers be arrested at the earliest, Dnyaneshwari Munde arrived at the SP’s office around 1 pm, carrying some inflammable substance with the intention of setting herself ablaze, a local police official said.

She first spoke to some reporters who were present there. “Prime minister Narendra Modi speaks about Operation Sindoor. But the government should tell me what happened with my `sindoor’,” she said.

Police took away the inflammable substance but she drank poison from a bottle.

She was rushed to the civil hospital where she was admitted in the ICU. Her condition was stable, a doctor said.

Meanwhile, the Mahadev Munde murder case was handed over to the local crime branch during the day, the official said.

The rising crime in Beed district came into the spotlight last year after the brutal murder of Santosh Deshmukh, sarpanch of Massajog village, for opposing an attempt by the local mafia to extort money from a wind energy firm. PTI AW KRK
