New Delhi: Of the over 80,000 Delhi Police personnel, as many as 24,456 above the age of 50 will get vaccinated against Covid-19 on a priority basis, ThePrint has learnt.

Muktesh Chander, special commissioner of police (operations), Delhi, had on Wednesday announced that personnel above the age of 50 will be on the priority list for the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

While over 7,600 Delhi Police personnel were infected by Covid-19, as many as 32 have succumbed to the virus so far.

“We successfully completed uploading all data on the CoWIN portal Wednesday. Only a few personnel who require new ID cards or have recently joined are left, which will be done in a day or two,” Chander, who is also the nodal officer for the Covid-19 action plan in the capital city, told ThePrint.

An order was issued by Chander on 26 December to all Delhi Police personnel, asking them to update their cellphone numbers in the Personal Information System (PIS) on the Intra DP (intranet of Delhi Police).

“We are uploading the dates of birth (DoB), phone numbers, nearest vaccination centres to the posting centre. So, on the basis of the DoB, people above the age of 50 will be picked up by the server and they will receive an SMS with the date, time and location of the vaccination centre, nearest to their place of posting,” Chander added.

“The personnel can take 1 hour break from their duty and get the vaccine shots, since the place of posting is also mentioned on the system,” he added. All of this will be coordinated by the Delhi Police’s central server and care will be taken so that no one is left out.

The personnel were earlier instructed to update their mobile numbers by 3 January. But the process was delayed because many had changed their contact numbers and the new ones were not updated on the main record book of the Delhi Police’s establishment branch.

Dry runs held for Delhi Police personnel

Vaccine dry runs were conducted by the Delhi Police earlier, during which messages were sent to personnel with their names and PIS numbers, as well as information about the date, time and venue for their shots.

The world’s largest vaccination drive is set to roll out in India from 16 January. As many as 30 crore people will be inoculated against the virus in the first phase.

The Narendra Modi government had on 3 January granted emergency use authorisation to Oxford-AstraZeneca’s vaccine Coveshield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
