‘Mother India’ Heeraben — BJP leaders hail PM’s mother for supporting coronavirus warriors

In a viral video, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben can be seen clanging a thaali in support of those fighting against the coronavirus pandemic.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben joined the rest of the country to express gratitude to those providing essential services during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic Sunday.

In a video — which has garnered over 7,70,000 views — the Prime Minister’s mother can be seen beating a steel plate amidst the sound of conch shells and claps during the ‘janata curfew’ that Modi announced Thursday.

Modi responded to the video and said, “Mother… Mother with the blessings of crores of mothers like you, doctors, nurses, medical staff, policemen, security personnel, cleaning staff and media workers providing essential services and fighting coronavirus will be greatly inspired. And will also have the required support to work further.”

BJP leaders pay tribute

Other BJP leaders also tweeted out emotional tributes to Heeraben.

National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party B.L. Santosh, shared her photo along with other women and said, “That’s Mother India in her true spirits.”

Sharing the video, Chouhan said, “I bow to Prime Minister Modi’s mother Heeraben, as she has given birth to a son who has dedicated himself to the country. Even at the age of 96 she has the spirit to fight COVID-19, which will inspire the entire country. I salute such a mother.”

Union Minister for Law & Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad called the move “truly emotional”.

BJP leaders Hardeep Singh Puri, Piyush Goyal, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and Poonam Mahajan also retweeted PM Modi’s message to his mother.
